The UKs Best Cultural Festivals.

Andy Robertson

The UK is home to some of the world's most notable music and arts festivals but there is also a vibrant festival scene that celebrates the cultural diversity of Britain's population. These festivals offer an insight into the food, religion and cultural experience from faraway lands and appeals to those who perhaps never get the chance to travel to other countries.

The UK has always been a welcome destination for immigrants for years and with most settled for multiple generations they still have a desire to celebrate their roots and cultural background. This has given rise to numerous cultural festivals throughout the UK, which ones are the most popular for visitors.

Barrio Fiesta London.
A celebration of everything from Filipino culture the London Barrio 2-day festival is an annual event that has taken place every year since 1985 and attracts over 30,000 visitors on each day. The festival includes Filipino food, cultural performances and live music from local musicians and artists flown from the Philippines. The festival caters for some of the 200k Filipinos living in the UK who were born in the Philippines along with anyone with an interest in the culture.

Magic of Thailand.
Thailand is one of the most popular holiday destinations for the British and it's no wonder that a festival celebrating Thai culture exists. Founded in 2012 the festival visits Manchester, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Norwich, Brighton and Warwick. Popular content at each event includes Thai food, arts and crafts, traditional Thai dances, Thai boxing (Muay Thai) demonstrations, ladyboy shows and Thai massage. With only a small community of about 40k Thais living in the UK who were born in Thailand the festivals attract mostly non-Thais and the events are heavily sponsored by Thai companies associated with tourism in Thailand.

Indian Diwali.
The largest Diwali festival takes place every year in Leicester and is the largest Festival of Lights event outside of India. The Leicester festival features about 50 separate events spread across the city over a two-week period and includes music, dance and live performances in a variety of venues, all ending with a fireworks display. The UK has a long history with India and currently has about 1.4m ethic Indians in the UK.

Other Notable Cultural Festivals Include:

  • Chinese New Year.
  • Nottingham Reggae Festival.
  • Notting Hill Carnival.

Not only do all these culturally diverse festivals cater for immigrant communities living in the UK but they attract people from all cultural backgrounds along with a sizable student community studying in the UK who want a taste of home. With one of the most culturally tolerant and diverse populations of any European country the UK continues to offer a wealth of cultrual events and festivals.

For organisers planning their festivals using a software management platform like Festival Pro gives them all the functionality they need manage every aspect of their event logistics. The guys who are responsible for this software have been in the front line of event management for many years and the features are built from that experience and are performance artists themselves. The Festival Pro platform is easy to use and has comprehensive features with specific modules for managing artists, contractors, venues/stages, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, guestlists, ticketing, cashless payments and contactless ordering.
