Luxury Bathroom Facilities for Music Festivals.

Andy Robertson

Providing a luxury VIP experience is part of almost every music festival where festival-goers pay a premium to get a home form home service. The key element that helps to sell any VIP package is the bathroom facilities provided and this can vary from event to event as organisers have a different interpretation of what a VIP service is.

In a competitive environment the sales of VIP packages for music festivals can make up a significant profit centre so getting the right balance of cost and provision of services provided is essential. The designated VIP area may be shared or close to the performance artists area although any big-name artist will probably specify in their rider exclusive use of bathroom facilities as part of their dressing room requirements. What are the key factors to consider when planning the VIP area bathroom facilities for a large scale music festivals located on a remote site.

Sourcing Contractors.
Getting the right contractor is key to the provision of good facilities so organisers should check the track record of potential suppliers and if possible, seek personal recommendations. Finding a contractor who can supply both the standard portable toilets and more upmarket facilities will help reduces costs and simplify logistics by using a single organisation. Most countries have a good range of suppliers to choose from but it's worth investigating their stock and number of units available as many get booked a year in advance. When considering what facilities can be supplied the criteria of what constitutes luxury can vary. As a general rule VIP guests will expect porcelain flushing toilets and hot and cold running water for showers and sinks. Some units come with air conditioning and most are supplied with fully stocked consumables.

Estimating Numbers.
Most suppliers have formulas for calculating the number of toilets required by estimating the number of visitors over a given period and whether or not alcohol is being served. A typical music festival with 10,000 visitors over one day will require about 90 toilet heads. For VIP facilities the ratio is considerably different and may be as low as 1 head per 10 visitors.

Service and Maintenance.
A good contractor will also provide maintenance and service for any luxury facilities provided to ensure they remain clean and usable for the duration of the event. This will also include correct installation and management of water supplies and disposal of waste materials. Contractors can help organisers with site planning to ensure the appropriate locating of any VIP bathroom facilities. This can also include assessing access to the festival site too as most luxury bathroom facilities are converted trailers and can be large taking up significant space.

For festival organisers planning their events using a software management platform like Festival Pro gives them all the functionality they need manage every aspect of their event logistics including contractor management. The guys who are responsible for this software have been in the front line of event management for many years and the features are built from that experience and are performance artists themselves. The Festival Pro platform is easy to use and has comprehensive features with specific modules for managing artists, contractors, venues/stages, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, guestlists, ticketing, cashless payments and contactless ordering.
