The Rise in Popularity of the Health and Wellness Festival.

Andy Robertson

Once the preserve of small specialist events or an afterthought at music festivals the health and wellness sector has enjoyed a surge in popularity to the extent their dedicated events and festivals have grown in number and size. Now a prominent feature on the annual festival scene they are likely to continue growing in popularity

The size of the largest health and wellness event, Balance Festival, is staggering with over 10,000 visitors spread over 3 days in May each year (2020 excepted). Although this is probably the largest in terms of visitor attendance there are at least another 15 that are not far behind in popularity.

The format may seem familiar to anyone who is a regular at music festivals, multiple stages with performances spread over multiple days. However, instead of musicians, bands and DJs expect performances from chefs, nutritionists plus fitness workshops and sessions with yoga experts and mediation gurus. The vendor pitches will consist of healthy food and drink options plus fitness and workout related equipment and gym membership for example. Visitors are unlikely to leave the festival with the proverbial 3-day hangover and rather uplifted form health and wellness overload. The typical festival areas of speciality will likley include:

Nutrition Food and Drink.
Workshops hosted by nutrition experts and chefs who will demonstrate how to cook and prepare healthy food and drinks.

Group Workouts and Fitness.
From fat burning spinning sessions to group stretching and aerobics workouts some of the leading motivational trainers are likely to host.

Yoga and Alternative Sessions.
Yoga has always been popular and alternative wellness experiences like Pilates are gaining in popularity.

Spiritual, Meditation and Mindfulness.
For visitors seeking something more spiritual such festivals always attract mediation and other spiritual gurus from around the world.

Vendors and Sponsors.
The mix of vendors and sponsors will always include healthy and organic food and drink alternatives plus the usual array of gyms pushing membership plus fitness attire and workout equipment like treadmills and static bicycles.

The overriding theme of such festivals leans themselves very well to engaging in social responsibility and sustainability. The demographics of attendees are likely to be advent supporters of such issues as they care for themselves and their environments. The health and wellness festivals are very much here to stay and will gain in popularity, particularly since countries have been through a traumatic 2020 where maintaining physical and mental health have been very topical. The population has become much more aware of these issues since working from home has become the norm with a higher propensity to be inactive and indulge more at home. People are missing out on their daily activity routines and getting lazy with diets. As 2021 approaches the health and wellness festival will be one sector that surely will see sustainable growth.

Using an events software management platform like FestivalPro health and wellness festival organisers get all the functionality they need to manage multiple stages, contractors, vendors sponsors and workshop leaders. The guys who are responsible for this software have been in the front line of event management for many years and the features are built from that experience and are performance artists themselves. The FestivalPro platform is straightforward to use and has comprehensive features for ticketing too with links to the festival website and social media platforms.
